La Salle
The person that I am doing is La Salle. He was an amazing explorer. He was the second to discover the Mississippi river. If you cannot say the word Mississippi or you can’t spell the word then here is a little trick to remember it. Here just say it in a song like this, mi-ssi-ssi-ppi. It is very simple and easy to remember. Also my person was much neglected at first but then he was later appreciated. Everyone thought that he was very crazy. They thought that he would just be a fool and come back as a failure. La Salle was not chosen to be an explorer he just became one. He always wanted to be an explorer. Since he started to realize the wonders the world had he decided to go and find them. So when he was in school he was always paying more attention to his geography teacher then his other entire teacher. Although his other teachers were angry with him they were happy that he was doing well at least one subject.
La Salle went on a total of 5 voyages. It took him that long to finally find the Mississippi river. People back then thought that the Mississippi river led to the Pacific Ocean. La Salle was the second to discover that the Mississippi river did not reach the Pacific Ocean. He discovered that river actually led to the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone thought that it was not true although it was. The country that chose La Salle to go to the voyage and explorer was France. They thought that he would actually find the Mississippi river. He had a pretty good estimate of where he was going. So they decided to give him what he needed for his voyage.
The voyages for La Salle were pretty difficult. His men did not like him that much. They were pretty upset with him and did not really appreciate him. They felt that he was very greedy and that he did not give them enough credit. So one day on their last voyage La Salle was murdered by his own crew. This just comes to show how much they hated him. La Salle met many people and some of the people were Iroquois, Nika, Montreal and Canada. He met Nika because he took him and his father as slaves in capture. Later on he killed the boy’s father then he kept Nika. He taught Nika everything about sea. Then he went and kept Nika as a crew member.
La Salle never got home he actually died while he was going to Texas. His crew hated him and they murdered him on the ship. I think Nika was involved in the killing of La Salle. The first journey of La Salle was on July 6, 1669.La Salle became the new governor of Fort Frontenac on May 13, 1675.the Montreal got very jealous of the fame of La Salle. So one day a man tried to poison him. They put poison in his food. Although after 1 month of being sick he recovered. La Salle was born on November 21, 1643. He was born in a small town named Roven. He was extremely good at math. People thought that he was very crazy. No one could ever understand him. That is why he did not have many friends. They all thought that he was a negative influence.
Well that is mainly everything about my person La Salle. He was a very interesting person. He always does everything in a different way. Although he was very cruel as in buying and selling slaves. He also killed Nika’s father and kept him as a crew member. La Salle went on voyages to find the Mississippi river many times. It helped him finally find things for his country France. He also made a lot of money by selling and trading furs. So that is the life and expeditions of La Salle.
